A control owner is the person assigned to manage a given control. The control owner is responsible for the health and function of their control, including making sure that action items get completed and connected Monitors are functioning.

Control owners can be assigned from the Roadmap and Control Details pages.

Why assign control owners?

Every control in your compliance program should be assigned an owner. When controls are assigned owners, your experience benefits in the following ways:

Improved Project Management

The Roadmap view can be filtered by control owner, giving program owners a role-based view of their organization's controls. Additionally, control owners can easily filter and review their own compliance responsibilities by logging into Thoropass.

Delegation of Duties

Program managers can divide the necessary compliance work among the relevant control owners. Control owners can be relied on to manage their compliance area instead of forcing program owners to track every detail.

Subject Matter Expertise

Controls should be assigned to owners with expertise in that compliance area. No one is better positioned to understand the subject matter and assign action items to their teammates than the correct control owner.
