The People Table Redesign is a fully rebuilt experience in Thoropass for managing and understanding the people tied to your organization. Designed from the ground up using our latest design system, this new table prioritizes clarity, consistency, and usability, making it easier to track employment statuses and ensure compliance across your team.

This redesign replaces the previous People Table with a cleaner interface, more reliable behavior, and better separation between employment records and access management. While certain access-related actions are still available, the focus has shifted toward giving you a clearer view of your people, their employment information and compliance standing.

Why We Rebuilt It

We rebuilt the People Table with intentionality; not only to modernize the UI, but to reduce friction and confusion in everyday workflows.

  • Consistency First: Built with our new design system, the People Table now offers a more predictable, polished experience throughout.

  • People-Focused: We’ve moved away from the blurred lines between users and employees. Employment status is now distinct from access, with clear actions for each.

  • Smarter Workflows: From bulk actions to better filtering and assignment visibility, the table is optimized to help you move quickly and confidently.

Key Improvements

A People-First Model

The new People table aligns more closely with how customers manage their workforce, not just their Thoropass users. That means:

  • Employment records remain even if someone doesn’t have login access.

  • The table surfaces people who are still part of HR systems or audit scopes.

  • Platform access is managed independently of employment status.

Clearer Actions: Revoke Access vs. Delete Person

The term “Deactivate” has been retired due to its ambiguity. It is now replaced by two distinct actions:

Action

Effect

Available For

Revoke Thoropass Access

Removes login access for the given workspace or organization without deleting the employment record

Any user with login

Delete Person

Permanently removes a manually created employment record

Manual records only

HR-integrated records cannot be deleted. To remove them from the People table, their employment status must be set to Inactive via your HR system.

Visibility Improvements for Deactivated People

In the legacy table, people who were deactivated didn’t vanish from the system, but how they appeared (or didn’t) created confusion:

  • HR-integrated people marked as deactivated were only visible when you enabled the old “Show Deactivated” toggle.

  • Manually added people behaved similarly: they were still in the system, but also only appeared when that toggle was on.

  • Because the toggle was tied to the ambiguous “deactivate” action, it was unclear what the status of these employee and user records really was.

Now:

  • HR-synced people will always be visible in the People table if they are still present in the integration feed, even if they had previously been marked “deactivated.”

  • Manual records that were deactivated are not shown by default, but are still included in data exports.

  • People with inactive employment status, regardless of HR or manual origin, can be shown by enabling the new “Show Inactive Employment Status” toggle.

This helps bring consistency across what’s visible in the UI, what exists in the backend, and what’s passed to auditors.

Thoropass Access: Understanding Platform Login Status

A new column, Thoropass Access, clarifies who can log in and what permissions they hold. This replaces prior visual cues (like profile icon colors) and disconnected columns like "Login Email" and "Thoropass Permission" with one clear source of truth.

Value

Meaning

No access

The person has never been invited to this Thoropass workspace/organization

[Permission Name]

The person is an active user within this organization/workspace with permission

Access revoked

The person previously had login access but no longer does to this workspace/organization
