Background
The Thoropass team had heard feedback from our clients that it was difficult to track upcoming action items on controls β particularly when the framework transitioned from "Implementation" mode to "Maintenance."
While the status of the control is "Healthy" when in "Maintenance" mode as long as are are no overdue maintenance action items or associated monitors that need attention, prior to action item due date filtering, identifying upcoming action items either had to be done by clicking into each control, or via creative filtering on the Tasks dashboard.
Action Item Due Date Filtering
Now, upcoming action items can be easily identified per control by leveraging the "Action Items Due By" filter at the top of the roadmap.
Depending on what's selected in the filter:
The list of controls will be filtered
The count next to the name of the control will be updated
The filter contains the following options:
No Filter
Displays all controls
Counts all open action items
"Within X Days" (e.g. "Within 30 Days")
Displays controls containing action items with overdue due dates, blank due dates, and due dates within the number of days selected
The counts will also be reflective of action items meeting that same criteria
Overdue
Displays controls containing action items with overdue due dates and blank due dates
The counts will also be reflective of action items meeting that same criteria
We included both overdue and blank due dates in all filters, to ensure you don't lose track of vital action items, just because they don't fit into the window.
More Details
When viewing a control, the action items themselves will not be filtered out. For example, if I have a control with an action item due tomorrow, and an action item due next year, while filtering on "Within 7 Days" will update the count to "1", when I open the control details, I will still see both action items (including the one due in a year).
This filter works in tandem with the "Framework" filter next to it. Both the control filtering and the action item counts will be reflective of the framework selected.
